چکیده

In this paper, we study a budget constrained location problem in which we simultaneously consider opening some new facilities and closing some existing facilities. Motivations for this problem stem from applications where, due to a change in the distribution of customer demand, the existing facility system no longer provides adequate service. The objective is to minimize the total weighted travel distance for customers subject to a constraint on the budget for opening and/or closing facilities and a constraint on the total number of open facilities desired. For this problem, we develop a mathematical programming model and examine its theoretical properties. We then develop three heuristic algorithms (greedy interchange, tabu search and Lagrangian relaxation approximation) for this NP-hard problem. Computational testing of these algorithms includes an analysis of the sensitivity of the solution to the budget and the desired number of facilities. The intended application in this testing is that of locating/relocating bank branches in a large-size town such as in our data set from Amherst, New York. We also discuss the situation where operating costs are part of the objective function. Scope and purpose In many service industry applications, e.g., banking, changing customer demand renders the current set of facilities inefficient. Under a budget constraint, a company may wish to close some of its existing facilities and open some new facilities to better serve its customers. This paper studies such a situation, drawing upon the literature for related location models and their solution techniques. An example of the scenario of locating bank branches in a large township is presented.

Solving the competitive facility location problem considering the reactions of competitor with a hybrid algorithm including Tabu Search and exact method

In this paper, a leader–follower competitive facility location problem considering the reactions of the competitors is studied. A model for locating new facilities and determining levels of quality for the facilities of the leader firm is proposed. Moreover, changes in the location and quality of existing facilities in a competitive market where a competitor offers the same goods or services ar...

A fuzzy capacitated facility location-network design model: A hybrid firefly and invasive weed optimization (FIWO) solution

Facility location-network design (FLND) problem, which determines the location of facilities and also communication links between the demand and facility nodes, is arisen from the combination of the facility location and network design problems. This paper deals with fuzzy capacitated facility location-network design model which aims to select the facilities and candidate links in a way that yi...

An Iterated Local Search for the Budget Constrained Generalized Maximal Covering Location Problem

Capacitated covering models aim at covering the maximum amount of customers’ demand using a set of capacitated facilities. Based on the assumptions made in such models, there is a unique scenario to open a facility in which each facility has a pre-specified capacity and an operating budget. In this paper, we propose a generalization of the maximal covering location problem, in which facilities ...

A decomposition approach for facility location and relocation problem with uncertain number of future facilities

In this paper, we discuss two challenges of long term facility location problem that occur simultaneously; future demand change and uncertain number of future facilities. We introduce a mathematical model that minimizes the initial and expected future weighted travel distance of customers. Our model allows relocation for the future instances by closing some of the facilities that were located i...

This paper addresses a new version of the exible ow line prob- lem, i.e., the budget constrained one, in order to determine the required num- ber of processors at each station along with the selection of the most eco- nomical process routes for products. Since a number of parameters, such as due dates, the amount of available budgets and the cost of opting particular routes, are imprecise (fuzz...
